Nautilus, part of Lance Hewison’s Into the Blue series, presents the intricate, spiraling form of a nautilus shell rendered in luminous blue tones. The symmetry and precision of the shell’s design are accentuated by the glowing lines that define its structure, evoking a sense of both natural beauty and mathematical perfection. For me, the nautilus represents both the beauty of nature’s design and the passage of time. Its spiral structure is a reminder of how patterns repeat in nature, just as they do in our own lives. I wanted to capture the elegance and simplicity of this form, while also drawing attention to its mystery. There’s something almost otherworldly about the nautilus, and in this piece, I aimed to evoke the feeling of it being suspended in time, floating quietly in the vastness of the ocean.
