Nautilus
oil on panel, 2024

40 x 30cm
Available for purchase

This piece depicts a cross section of the nautilus shell. The word nautilus comes from the Ancient Greek ναυτίλος, meaning 'little sailor'. The shell presents one of the finest natural examples of a logarithmic spiral. Aside from the spectacular geometry of its chambered shell, this sea creature is fascinating for another reason: it has survived more or less unchanged for over 500 million years, making the nautilus a 'living fossil'.

The artwork is hand signed on the back and includes a certificate of authenticity.
